OnPurpose Retreats for Adults

As Frederic M. Hudson, Ph.D., writes, "Finding purpose is more than pursuing a goal. A person with purpose has a compelling reason for being alive, a raison d'ętre—an ontological pull, a motivational path, a calling. Purpose is the most important quality for every life to possess, experientially, consciously, and with words. It tells us what we want most to be about."

When we are living "on-purpose," we are passionate, obstacles are easier to surmount, and we have plenty of energy to do what we need to do.

During a two-day OnPurpose Retreat, Rhonda will lead participants in reflecting on the six archetypes outlined in the book The Hero Within, by Carol S. Pearson, and explore where each person is on his/her life's quest, and where to go next. Participants are assigned a chapter of Pearson's book to read prior to the retreat.

Exploration through art

The process of creating something from the right side of their brains (where there aren't any rules about what is right/wrong or good/bad) helps participants see into their shadows, to get under "this" layer, or to get through a stuck place. That's why Rhonda uses many art forms (writing, two- and three-dimensional art, movement, even a bit of theatre) during the weekend as a means of exploration.

Also, "the body knows" what the brain does not. That's why participants will be moving—as a way of mining information that may be stored in their bodies. This use of art focuses on process, not product—there is no need to be "artistic" to reap the full benefits of this work.

One participant wrote afterwards: "Concerning this past weekend: it was something I've never experienced before. When I got home I felt like I was waking from a beautiful dream. I didn't feel like the same person, like the person my family knows. […] I don't think I've focused on ME for such a long period of time as this weekend for years! I think that was part of the strange feeling, I saw parts of me I didn't know."
